Even superheroes need help sometimes!
#FreshDeeds on 947 is essential Thursday afternoon listening – it’s the segment in DJ Fresh’s “Fresh on 947” show that gives superheroes a helping hand. The idea behind #FreshDeeds is simple: listeners can nominate a South African who’s doing extraordinary things, but just needs a little bit of help. This is feel-good radio at its best!
When we heard that two South African superheroes were both in need of new glasses, it was too good an opportunity to miss – after all, at Vision Works we’re always looking for ways to help you #LOVEYOUREYES.
Two lives, two pairs of glasses
Mohammed and Leonidas have never met, but they have two things in common: they’re both awesome South Africans, and they both needed new glasses.
Mohammed is an entrepreneur who’s always looking to help others. From his shop in Mayfair, he creates amazing one-off leather items, with belts being his specialty. For detailed work, he needs to be able to see exactly what he’s doing – but his old glasses were no longer up to the job.
Leonidas is a bright, energetic 6-year-old with a brilliant smile. During these tough times, his Mom Tanya has – like many South Africans – been struggling to make ends meet.
Mohammed and Leonidas were both nominated for #FreshDeeds, and that’s when DJ Fresh and the Fresh on 947 team reached out to Vision Works.
Making it happen
Vision Works Marketing Manager Fleur Winnaar was invited onto the Fresh Show on 947 show to give the good news to Mohammed and Leonidas. Vision Works has 32 stores nationwide, so it would be easy for them to find one nearby, have a free eye test to determine which prescription they need, and then have their free pair of glasses made specially for them.
