This is by no means a new book, but with most things in my life I am quite a late bloomer, catching the Feist fever is no exception to my habits. One thing I will say is wow have I been missing out!
The book was first published in 1982 but has since been edited by the author for fans to indulge in deleted conversations between key characters. My December read had everything you would expect from a fantasy classic, guts, glory, goblins and girls.
The story is set in Midkemia and follows the journey of orphan boy Pug and his quest to become the most powerful magician in the realm, among others. The tone and pace of the book start deceptively slow but once war is on the doorstep of the kingdom, many twists and turns create an unexpected flow of events for the characters. I especially enjoyed the attitude of the adventure when our boy Pug gets thrown into another world as a war slave and how he slowly begins to see this alien world as his home.
If you are reading by yourself or as a bed time story book with your kids. I would defiantly recommend this revised addition as a lighthearted adventure to set the pace for a magical 2016!
